Truth Without Borders Press

About the press

An argument is only as good as the record underneath it.

Truth Without Borders Press is an independent publisher based in Lisbon. We publish documented non-fiction about power and the systems that conceal it — subjects where the reporting exists in fragments and the structure connecting those fragments does not.

How we work

Every citation in every book is checked individually before publication. Not sampled, not spot-checked: each one, against the source it names. This is slow and it is the whole point. A book arguing a contested case that gets a number wrong has handed its opponents the only rebuttal they need, and they will use it instead of answering the argument.

Where the checking corrects the author, the correction stays and the record of it is kept. In practice most corrections have strengthened the argument rather than weakened it, because the commonest error is not overstatement but the opposite — a claim that understated its own case was a claim leaving evidence on the table.

We name what does not fit. Both books contain passages conceding where their own framework fails, and one contains a full chapter putting the strongest arguments against its position as their best advocates put them. A book that cannot say where it is weakest is asking to be taken on trust, and trust is exactly what these subjects have exhausted.

The name

Borders are drawn by states, and so is most of what may be said about them. The press takes its name from the tradition of working across those lines rather than within them.
